We're going back to La Granja in Harlem and we're teaming up with Brooklyn-Queens Animal Save and Chilis on Wheels!
Please join us! The outreach in this neighborhood is really good - we always have several excellent conversations.
Reminders: This is a peaceful vigil. We believe in empathy and compassion for all living beings, including people who are not yet vegan and those who work in the live market. We are there to plant seeds and nurture the seeds we've already sown.
If we are confronted by an antagonist, remember it is best to just ignore them and walk away. Things can escalate quickly and that is something we do not want. That is not why we are there.
We have posters and brochures, you... only need to bring yourself.
Awareness is the beginning of change. What we do is plant the seeds of awareness which will bring about change.
A video on why bearing witness is important.
“Auschwitz begins wherever someone looks at a slaughterhouse and thinks: they’re only animals.” – Theodor W. Adorno
“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help.” – Leo Tolstoy, A Calendar of Wisdom
“For the dead and the living, we must bear witness.”
– Elie Wiesel, Holocaust Survivor, Nobel Peace Laureate, Boston University Professor
