“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to her who suffers, and try to help her.”

—Leo Tolstoy

About Us
NY Farm Animal Save was formed in the summer of 2013. We held our first vigil in September of that year. We are an all-volunteer group whose mission is to promote the benefits of a vegan and compassionate lifestyle. We seek to educate the public through bearing witness, community outreach and education where the main issues are the suffering of “food” animals, animal experimentation, human health and environmental well-being. We concentrate most of our educational outreach activities in communities and neighborhoods lacking in healthy and nutritional food resources. We follow a Gandhian love-based approach and hold peaceful vigils to bear witness (and thereby, call attention) to the plight of animals being exploited and abused. Our goals are to put glass walls on all of these organizations in New York State and contribute to the public debate about the place of animals in our society. Whether through one-on-one conversation, group action, or our billboard and sign campaigns, we are an inclusive group that welcomes all who wish to participate and hope you will want to “become the change you wish to see.”

We believe all oppression is connected. As such, we feel that it is important to stand up and participate in expressing our opposition to any and all oppression, whether it be for human or animal rights. After all, humans are animals too.

One of our favorite quotes is by Jeremy Bentham and it sums up how we feel: “The question is not, ‘Can they reason?’ nor, ‘Can they talk?’ but ‘Can they suffer?’”
