Please join us at a vigil at LaGranja Live Poultry, 1355 Amsterdam Ave New York, NY, Saturday June 21st, to bear witness, promote veganism, document the horrific situation these sentient beings are in and send our love to the animals. It is a great opportunity to open the eyes of the neighborhood people to making compassionate choices instead of contributing to the abuse, torture and murder of these innocent living beings.
Awareness is the beginning of change.
“When the suffering of another creature causes you to feel pain, do not submit to the initial desire to flee from the suffering one, but on the contrary, come closer, as close as you can to him who suffers, and try to help.” – Leo Tolstoy, A Calendar of Wisdom
“What else can we do for those who are not here? We cannot help save 6 million men, women and children who died. But to forget them would be a second death. I don’t think I am responsible for their first death. But I can be responsible, if I am not careful, in the second death.”
~Elie Wiesel, Holocaust Survivor, Nobel Peace Laureate, Boston University Professor
Bearing witness together touches the collective spirit. It nourishes community support while sustaining the activists and building the movement. The public and even workers involved in animal slaughter can be positively affected and moved by love-based approaches to witnessing, so critical to building a massive, grassroots movement for animal rights and social justice. It also makes the individual grow stronger, as Ramakrishna recognized in the nineteen century: “But my heart has grown much, much larger, and I have learnt to feel [the suffering of others].” ~Anita Krajnc, Founder of Toronto Pig Save
You can bring your own signs or use one of ours. We’ll have lots of literature to hand out too (in English and Spanish). This neighborhood presents lots of great opportunities to do some great outreach.
We look forward to seeing you there!
